Breaking news that smoking is bad for your health

It certainly isn’t breaking news that smoking is bad for your health. This has been shown over and over again to the point where both smokers and nonsmokers are tired of hearing about it.

But here’s a little extra motivation in case you or a loved one are trying to break a smoking habit: It may be causing your insomnia.

Smoking messes with your biological clock. It does everything from causing your cells to age faster to messing with the genes that tell us when we should be awake and when we should be asleep.

Smoking gets blamed for a lot of health issues. There are claims that it slows a person down, causing them to be less active and less productive during the day. Some of these issues are neurological, and studies have linked smoking with depression and a lack of ability to think clearly.

But here is something to consider: All of those symptoms can also be caused by not getting enough sleep on a nightly basis. If smoking is causing your insomnia, then ultimately it is still to blame for all of the effects of lack of sleep. But lack of sleep has been linked to many other health problems, such as anxiety and mood disorders, heart and lung problems, and more.

Here’s what the research all comes back to: Smoking is bad for your health. Researchers have proven it over and over, but now there’s a different way to look at it. One way smoking may be affecting your health is by keeping you up at night or not allowing you to sleep soundly through the night.

If you have already resolved to kick the smoking habit, you’ve made a good choice and are moving in the right direction. Long-term effects of smoking get worse as time goes by, so don’t put it off until tomorrow. Throw away that last pack, and get the help of your loved ones to make sure you are done for good this time. Before long, you may find that sleeping gets a whole lot easier for you.
